Disc duplication is a process by which pre-manufactured, blank recording media is written upon by a beam of laser light. This process is referred to as burning the disc or disc burning. Specialized recording media is constructed of bonded layers of polycarbonate substrate and materials that facilitate the recording process. Duplication is an economical means of producing short runs of optical discs that contain data files, music files, and video files. For larger quantities, replication is less expensive per disc than duplication. Unlike duplication which writes upon the disc with a laser beam, replication presses the image into the media as part of the disc manufacturing process. This makes replication a quicker and more productive process than disc duplication and, therefore, suitable for production of large quantities of discs. |
